Expedition dossier:
Day 01: Reach at Kathmandu via airlines and transfer to respective hotels.
On reaching at Kathmandu international airport where you will be greeted with warm welcome by High Five Adventures staff and guides, and then transfer to your hotel where you will be joined with other members of Mt. Cho-Oyu Expedition, here our guide and group leader will information and brief with wide information regarding Tibet, climb and Everest expedition.
Day 02-03: In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Cho-Oyu expeditions.
With free days in Kathmandu for necessary preparations where you will be busy packing and purchasing necessary required equipments for the expeditions, on last final day in Kathmandu with final briefing regarding the climb including do’s and don’ts, where our expert climbing guide will provide much information and items required for the climb.
For interested people can join in city tour around Kathmandu at places of interest, as Kathmandu valley full of world heritage sites of impressive historical and cultural monuments.
Day 04: Drive to Nylam 3,450 m via Zhangmu (2,300 m) -168 Kms - 06 hrs.
Starting our adventure overland to Tibet with an interesting drive of four hours to reach the border post at Kodari on Nepal side, with Passport and Visa formalities then heading towards Tibet / China entry points, here our Tibetan guides and driver receives you with short drive to Zhangmu the entry point of Tibet / China.
After completion of paper works, visa and permits continue drive following Bhote Kosi River upstream to Nylam town, a nice ride through beautiful forest of pines and rhododendron trees with views of waterfalls.
At Nylam transfer in the best available lodge-hotel or guest house for overnight stop with first night in Tibetan soil with high altitude gain.
Day 05: Rest day at Nylam for acclimatization.
A full rest day in Nylam a perfect altitude for acclimatization, here one can take a short hike and excursion visit the old holy cave and monastery of saint Milarepa a popular Buddhist Guru around 11th Century, Nylam a growing town just behind the peaks that straddles Nepal and Tibet near to Mt. Shishapangma base camp.
Day 06: Drive to Old Tingri 4, 500 m - 06 hrs.
From Nylam where Tibetan plateau starts, our morning drive leads past Tibetan farm villages to reach on top of Lalung-la Pass (5,050m) with views of Mt. Shisapangma (8013m highest within Tibet), after Lalung-la drive leads on vast Tibetan plateau to Old Tingri with first glimpse of Everest and Cho-Oyo peaks, Old Tingri a windswept town with moderate and basic lodge for overnight stop.
Day 07: Drive to Cho-Oyu Base Camp 4,800 m - 04 hrs.
From windy and busy town, our route leads away from main highway towards South East at Cho-Oyu base camp, as the drive leads on wide windswept valley with super panorama of world highest peaks including Mt. Everest and Cho-Oyu with other adjoining peaks.
From the village of Old Tingri our expedition’s trucks leads off the tarmac road and bumping up around grassy plain leading up to near Nangpa La.
Setting our camp on a flat moraine at the foot of the Gyabrag glacier, a good path leads in about two days to Advanced Base Camp, our vehicles will be permanently at disposal or on stand - by at the Base Camp for emergency purpose.
Day 08: At Cho- Oyu Base Camp rest and preparations.
Today with final preparation with all climbing gears from the trucks and busy sorting out the equipments and planning with few practices before the final event to the top of world 6th highest peak.
Day 09: Trek and climb to Advance BC at Interim camp 5,800m.
Taking two days trek to Advance Base Camp at the foot of Nangpa La Pass. All the expedition equipment will be carried on yaks.
One overnight or interim camp is needed on route to Advance Base.
Advance Base Camp (ABC) at near 5,700 meters grand views of surrounding peaks and towards Nangpa La (which leads to Nepal Khumbu / Everest area),
for centuries a major trading route between Nepal and Tibet. Since past few years many platforms has been set and cut into moraine of Advance Base Camp. Our expeditions will have large kitchen and mess tents with member’s tents which will be pitched close by.
Day 10 - 24: Climbing on top Cho-Oyu from North Col ( 15 days for summit top).
Final assault to the summit where our expedition leader will control daily routine of the expedition, normally establish camp I, at 6,400 meters and camp II, at 7,100 m before returning to Advance Base Camp for rest.
From Advance Base Camp walk and climb to Camp I at 6,400 meters. If there’s no snow a steep path leads up to an interminable scree slope which will be much support for the climb.
The camp is located on a broad snow field at the foot of the ridge leading up to a serac barrier which is the only real technical section on the route.
High above a serac climb out onto a plateau cut by huge crevasses, a winding path between to pitch Camp II at about 7,100 meters.
Above Camp II broad snow slopes lead more easily to Camp III at 7,500 meters. This is the highest camp and make the summit bid from here. The top of the summit a large plateau with highest point of the peak is a long way back. In fine weather views are marvelous of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Chamlang, Amadablam and other peaks of the Khumbu with Mt. Melung-tse and Gaurishankar massifs. Normally it is possible to descend from the summit all the way to advance base camp on the same day. This will depend on snow conditions and members fitness. 15 days for climb from ABC as the climb follows moraine towards the summit of Mt. Cho-Oyu at 8,201 m.
After a breathtaking adventure and feeling high descend back safely to Base Camp using few camps on long descend.
Day 25: Descend to base camp.
This day all climbing party and member including guide and staff should have reached at base camp, to assist packing equipments and checking each member health condition after the great classic climb and to organize departure from Cho-Oyu base camp to Kathmandu.
Everything will be packed in plastic expedition drums for the return journey to Kathmandu. If the road is in good condition it is sometimes possible to go to Kathmandu in one day from the Base Camp.
Day 26: Pack up and cleaning of base camp.
Start packing climbing gears and disposing garbage in proper sites, where CPPC (China / Chomolungma Pollution Control) will check the camp and depositing the litter to take away from the base camp to disposal sites or back to Kathmandu. Prepare everything for an early departure the next morning.
Day 27: Drive to Zangmu 1,940 m - 06 hrs.
After superb adventure on top of Mt. Cho-Oyu, morning drive to Zangmu a border town, from Cho-Oyu base camp few hours drives leads at Lhasa / Kathmandu highway at Old Tingri.
After a short break drive continues over Laylung pass at 5,050 m, with excellent views of snowcapped peaks bordering with Nepal and Tibet. From here downhill to Nylam and back in forest area after leaving behind the high and dry Tibetan plateau, drive leads through green forested area with views of beautiful waterfalls, after few hour drive from Nylam reaching Zangmu town for last overnight stop in Tibet.
Day 28: Drive to Kathmandu via Kodari - 06 hrs.
Morning as per China Beijing Standard Time (of 2:15 minutes ahead than Nepal standard time) after passport and visa formalities, a short drive leads at Friendship Bridge separating Tibet / China with Nepal territory.
At the bridge bidding farewell to our Tibetan guides and driver, then walk into Nepal soil for the drive to Kathmandu, on reaching Kathmandu transfer to your hotels with afternoon free for individual activities and shopping
Day 29-30: In Kathmandu for individual activities.
Two days as spare and free day in case of delay on drive back to Kathmandu depending upon road and weather conditions, on this day busy sorting out climbing equipments, where our leader and guide will submit the expeditions report to concern department.
On this free day you can join in our guided tour of interest with culture and heritage sites as Kathmandu valley is full of world heritage sites, however some of them been damaged from recent earthquakes.
Day 31: International departure for home ward bound.
Mt. Cho-Oyu Expeditions completes today here in Kathmandu, as per the time for your international flight homeward bound or to next respective countries and port of call, transfer to airport with mesmerizing and exciting adventure with High Five Adventures and its cheerful friendly guides and staff.
