Everest three pass trek is one of the wonderful venture which is preferred by the nature enthusiast which takes you around the EBC and Gokyo Lake passing three High passes in Everest region. We will be crossing Renjola Pass, Cho La pass and Kongma La pass during this trek. These 3 high passes are located at high altitude over 5300m with extreme climatic conditions and difficulties. We recommend experienced trekkers who are daring to challenge the high altitudes of the Everest regions. Like other trekking routes Everest three pass offers astonishing panorama of the beautiful white Himalayas and tropical Gokyo valley. This trek route is also more stunning which offers mesmerizing sight like never seen before. On making our way to these passes we come across various rural villages inhabited by diverse ethnic groups enriched with amazing cultures.

Everest Three Pass Trek overviews

Everest three pass trek commences from Lukla trekking towards the Namche Bazaar also called gateway to Everest. While ascending up to the Chola and reaching to cross the highest pass Kongma La pass we come across the eastern Renjo La Pass. As this trek is quite difficult and takes us towards high altitude passes above 5000m so we need enough time to acclimate with the climate and altitude. Taking a day breaks are mandatory.Ascending slowly and steadily tackling the Everest three pass trek is the only option moving in a clockwise direction. Along with the mesmerizing view this trek offers great excitements at some points which you will never be able to omit in your life. As we are trekking in the high mountains passing through the slippery icy paths which as quite difficult so we need to follow the instructions of the experienced guide. Hence, this trek is full of fun as it is physically challenging and thrilling adventure taking you around the Everest region.

Everest Three Pass Trek Route

We begin our Everest three pass trek with the scenic flight from Kathmandu heading towards the rich Lukla and heading towards the Namche Bazar also known as gate way to Everest afterwards. After a day break for acclimate we pass Phakding. As we are trekking in the mountain region we will be experiencing the Tibetan/Sherpa culture mostly. Trekking above  high altitude is quite hard so, we take enough time to acclimate our body with the cold temperature and high altitude. We well be ascending slowly and steadily as well.After conquering the Khongma La pass we climb up to the Everest Base camp followed by Renjola pass afterwards. We will be passing through various checkpoints like Tengboche, Dingboche, Chukkung, Gorakshep, Kalapatthar etc. Observing the stunning panorama will be throughout these checkpoints. We will steadily ascend and descend through the icy paths while heading back to the Namche Bazaar afterwards and followed by Lukla. We end of our Trek with scenic flight back to Kathmandu.

Suitable Time for Everest Three Pass trek

Like other trekking seasons spring and autumn are considered to be the best which includes March, April, May, September, October and November months to go for the Everest three pass Trek. The climate is warm and sunny during these periods of time.  Trekking during the winter can be challenging due to low temperature and extreme climate and we don’t recommend monsoon. So, book trek now ASAP with us.

Day 1: Arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport. (1300m/4,256ft)

Day 2: City Excursion and Trek Preparation. (1300m/4,256ft)

Day 3: Kathmandu (1,300m/4,265ft) to Lukla (2,845m/9,333ft) to Phakding(2,610m/8,562ft) 8 km/ 3-4 hrs trek.

Day 4: Phakding (2,610m/8,562ft)- Namche (3440 m/11,285ft). 12 km/ 6-7 hrs trek.

Day 5: Acclimatization and Exploration day.

Day 7: Tengboche (3,860m/12,633ft)-Dingboche (4,410m/14,467ft) 10 km/ 6-7 hrs trek.

Day 9: Rest and acclimatization day at Chhukung (4,730m/15,518ft):

Day 10: Chhukung(4,730m/15,518ft to Knogma La (5,535m/18,158ft) to Lobuche(4,940m/16,206ft). 12 km/ 9-10 hrs trek.

Day 11: Lobutse(4,940m/16,206ft) – Gorakshep(5,164m/) – Everest Base Camp (5,364m/17,600ft) – Gorakshep(5,164m/16,942ft) 10 km/ 9-10 hrs trek.

Day 12: Trek from Gorakshep – Kalapatthar(5,545m/18,192ft)-Gorakshep – Dzonglha(4,830m/15,850ft) 8 km/ 7-8 hrs trek.

Day 13: Dzongla(4,830m/15,850ft) to Cho La Pass (5,420m/17,781ft) to Thangnak(4,680m/15,354ft) to Gokyo (4,790m/15,715ft) 12 km/ 9 -10 hrs trek.

Details Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300 m/4264 ft)

Our representative will pick you up from the Tribhuvan International Airport on your arrival. Our representative will escort you to the conformed hotel through a short drive. You can take rest afterwards and freshen up later. In the evening we will have short meeting with the group members and our terk guides. We have welcome dinner later introducing you to the typical Nepalese cuisine and culture. We stay for overnight in Kathmandu

Day 02: Kathmandu: sightseeing and trek preparation

Today we will take a day break in Kathmandu for sight-seeing. After breakfast our tour guide will come to pick you up in the hotel. We will take a tour around world heritage sites enlisted by UNESCO. These include the architecturally beautiful Durbar Square located around the valley, the sacred Hindu temple; Pashupati Nath, the famous 'Monkey Temple' Swayambunath and the world’s largest stupa; Bauddha Nath Stupa. After spending enough time in this places we head back to the hotel. We gather up for some meeting later and spending rest of the day preparing for tomorrow.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla, trek to Phakding (2,651m/8,700ft): 40 minutes flight; 8km, 3 - 4 hours trek

Today we will begin our Everest three pass trek. We will have a scenic 40 minutes domestic flight to lukla. We will fly in between the glorious mountains of the Everest region. After landing in lukla; we prepare ourselves to trek towards Phakding. We will have a short trek today. After descending for a while come across the cheplung village followed by the Phakding. A beautiful glimpse of the Mt Khumbila can be seen which has never been climbed as it is regarded as the sacred one. We stay for overnight in Phakding.

Day 04: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,438m/11,280 ft): 11km, 5 - 6 hours

Today we will have 5-6 hours of trekking. After breakfast we head toward the Namche Bazaar leaving Phakding behind. We will be trekking uphill and downhill, crossing the Dudh koshi shortly afterwards. Magnificent view of the Mt. Thamerku awaits you in the Benkar village. We enter the Sagarmatha National park crossing various bridges at monjo. We check in the trekking permits there. We come across the Jorsale village followed by the Namche Bazaar. Beautiful glimpse of the Himalayas can be admiring in the Namche Bazaar. Enjoying the majestic view of the various mountains like Lhotse, Everest, Tawache and others, stay for overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Day 05: Namche Bazaar: Rest and acclimatization

We take a day break today to adjust ourselves with the high altitude and cold climate. This is one of the 3 scheduled rest day which will help us to acclimate with the high altitude. Today we will spend whole day exploring the area. We will be joining a short hike that takes us around the Namche bazaar which rewards us with the admirable view of the Himalayan ranges. Visiting some nearby monasteries can also be done today. Hillary School is also one of the major attraction in the Namche Bazaar. In short today we will be exploring around the landmarks of Namche Bazaar. We stay for overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Day 06:  Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3860m/12,660 ft): 10km, 5 - 6 hours

We will take a leave from Namche Bazaar heading towards the Tengboche. After breakfast we will follow up the easy trail to reach the Phunki Thanga. We will reach our destination after 5-6 hours of trekking and ascending uphill. The Tengbocke monastery is the largest monasteries located in the Khumbu region. The mesmerizing view of the Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamseku, Nuptse and Lhotse can be enjoyed from the tengboche village. We will be aiming to reach the monastery by 3 p.m. We stay for overnight in Tengboche village.

Day 07: Tengboche to Dingboche (4,360 m/14,300 ft): 9km, 5 - 6 hours

After breakfast we head towards the Dingboche, our next check point for day 07. Today we will have a gradual descend down the hill making our way through the lush forest of conifers and rhododendron. Keeping Mt Everest on our sight we come across the Imja river which will takes us to the Pangboche Monastery followed by the Imja Valley. We will have a slight ascend before reaching the Dingboche. Dingboche is a beautiful settlement which is quite windy, overlooked by the Chortens and prayer flags. We stay for overnight in Dingboche.

Day 08: Dingboche: acclimatization and rest

 Today we will have another day for the acclimatization. We will be exploring around the village enjoying the beautiful scenery and landscapes. We will notice the beautiful village accompanied by field whicha re enclosed with the stone walls. Hiking up to the Nagarjun hill can be another option for today. Beautiful view of the various mountains like Makalu and Lhotse awaits you in the Nagarjun Hilla top. We will stay for overnight in Dingboche enjoying these mesmerizing things.

Day 09: Dingboche to Chhukung (4750m/15,580 ft), climb Chhukung Ri (5,546m): 14km, 6 – 7 hours

We will leave Dingboche after having the breakfast. Chhukung is the next checkpoint for Day 09. We make our way through the stone-walled fields following the Imja khola and enter the glacier moraines. On continuing our trek we come across the icy streams giving the fantastic view of the mountain peaks like Ama dablam and Amphu Labsa. After trekking for 30 more minutes we will reach our destination for today where we take a break for lunch. After a short break we head towards the chhukung Ri. We will have an easy scrambling near the summit. We will be enjoying the beautiful peaks around. After capturing this beautiful moments we head back with short descend to the Chhukung where we will be staying for overnight.

Day 10: Cross to Kongma La pass (5535m/18,159ft), trek to Lobuche (4940m/16,210ft): 10km, 6 - 7 hours

Today we are going to reach the highest point of our entire journey. We take a leave early in the morning after having breakfast heading towards the northwest of Chhukung. Most of our trail will be ascending uphill making our way towards the nuptse Glacier Moraines. We will cross the high pass, Kongma La pass enjoying the prayers flags and marked by cairns. We will gradually descend from the pass which is quite difficult. We will be heading towards the Lobuche. We will be staying for overnight in Lobuche.

Day 11: Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5170 m/16,961ft), visit Everest Base Camp (5364 m/17,594 ft): 13km, 6-7 hours

Today after breakfast we begin our trek moving along the lateral moraines of the Khumbu Glaciers enjoying the beautiful glimpse of the Everest along with the other snow-capped mountains. After a short ascend we reach to Thangma Riju from where we will get an admirable panoramic view of the Himalayan visata. We ascend towards the Chandri Glacier reaching Gorak Shep afterwards. on continuing our trek we come to the Everest Base Camp passing the rocky dunes, streams and moraines. We head back to the Gorak Shep after a while where we will be staying for overnight.

Day 12: Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar (5545 m/18,192 ft), then to Lobuche (4940 m/16,207 ft): 7km, 8 - 9 hours

We will be heading towards the Kala Patthar early in the morning. Kala Patthar is well known for the remarkable view of the Himalayan range. We will trek to the Kala Patthar early in the morning to capture the sunrise view over the Mt Everest. Today we might have to face the cold temperature as we will be trekking quite early in the dark morning with chill winds. We capture some moments and enjoy the mesmerizing view from the top of kala Patthar we weill again retrace our step towards the Lobuche. We will be staying for overnight in Lobuche.

Day 13: Lobuche to Dzongla (4830m/15,850 ft): 6km, 3 - 4 hours

After breakfast we will be leaving lobuche heading towards the Dzongla. We will have a short trek today lasting only 3-4 hours. Descending down to the hill and coming across the stupa and tombstones will take you closer to the Chola Tsho Lake. We will cross the Chola Khola afterwards from a bridge and reach the Dzongla. We will stay for overnight in Dzongla.

Day 14: Trek to Gokyo (4800m/15,580 ft) via Cho La pass (5368m/17,611 ft): 6km, 7 - 8 hours

We will gain some heights today as we are heading towards the Cho La pass. Early in the morning after breakfast we head towards the Chola Lake who resides in the shade of majestic peak Ama Dablam. After crossing the Chola Lake we climb up to the Cho La pass following the trail that curves with a round crevasse. We can find the top marked with prayer flags and cairns. The top of Cho La pass rewards us with the beautiful and mesmerizing view of the peaks around. We capture sometime and enjoy our moments and head towards the Gokyo. We will be crossing some glaciers and some series of Six Lakes. After the short trek we reach the Gokyo Lake followed by the Gokyo village. We will be staying for overnight in Gokyo.

Day 15: Rest day in Gokyo: Climb Gokyo Ri (5357m/17,575 ft), tour 4th and 5th Gokyo lakes: 3 - 4 hours

Today we will be taking a day break at Gokyo to acclimate with the high altitude. We will do some hiking rather than staying still for the whole day. To enjoy the beautiful view of the majestic mountains we trek towards the Gokyo Ri today. On the other hand we will be heading towards the fourth Gokyo lake which is 3 Km north to the Gokyo Village. We will be crossing some admiring glaciers on our ways. We will be heading back to the Gokyo for overnight stay.

Day 16: Gokyo to Marlung (4210m/13,810 ft) via Renjo La Pass (5360m/17585 ft): 11km, 7 - 8 hours

Today we will be crossing the third and last pass, Renjo La pass  in the Khumbu region. After early morning breakfast we will be heading towards the Marlung throught the Renjo La Pass. Our path ways through alongside to the dudh Pokhari. Trekking for a while takes us to the Renjola Pass which rewards us with the beautiful mesmerizing view of the Himalayas and roweling ranges. We enjoy the great view  and head towards our destination shortly afterwards. On continuing from the pass, our trail takes us down to a stone staircase and then moves over a loose scree to reach the south bank of Angladumba Tsho Lake. The prescence of ice on the trail while descending down can make our descent a bit hazardous. Along the way we see Relama Tsho and Renjo Lake. We descend towards a narrow valley clogged with giant boulders to Lumde where there is a support lodge, but it is often closed. We walk almost for an hour from Lumde to reach Marlung on the east bank of the Bhote Koshi River. We stay for overnight at Marlung.

Day 17: Marlung to Namche Bazaar: 15km, 5 - 6 hours

After early morning breakfast we will be descending from Marulung to Thame which follows a traditional route used for centuries by the Tibetan traders. We will cross the Bhote Koshi River and descend to Taranga followed by  descend to cross two bridges before reaching Thame. On looking Thame, is a famous Gompa situated on a hill to the west.  From here, we gradually descend on a trail that passes through a few small villages before reaching Namche Bazaar. We stay for overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Day 18: Namche Bazaar to Lukla: 19km, 6 - 7 hours

We will have a gradual descend throughout our day. After breakfast we leave Namche Bazaar heading towards the Lukla. Trekking for 6-7 hours we will reach lulka. We will be crossing several bridges over the soaring Dudhkoshi and its tributaries. Making our way in through the beautiful pine and Rhododendron will lead you towards the Lukla. We can encounter prayer flags and stones all the way towards the Lukla. We stay for overnight in Lukla preparing for early morning flight tomorrow.

Day 19: Lukla to Kathmandu: 40 minutes flight

Today we will be heading back to the capital early in the morning. So, we will take an early morning flight to Kathmandu. Enjoying the 40 minutes scenic flight around the high hills and mountains we reach the Kathmandu Valley. You will be checked in into your respective hotel. Rest of the can be spent according to your will. we will have and farewell dinner later in the evening for the successful completion of the journey. We will stay for overnight in Kathmandu preparing to leave for home tomorrow.

Day 20: Final Departure

Today is the last day of our wonderful journey; Everest three pass trek. After breakfast we will pick you up from your hotel and escort you to the Tribhuvan International Airport before the 3 hours of scheduled flight. You can also extend your stay in Nepal for other activities. Hope to see you again in Nepal with other adventure in mind.
