Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a fairly easy and pleasant trek in the Annapurna region, famed for the breathtaking views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Lamjung, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli and Manaslu mountain ranges among others as well as unmatched views of sunrise and sunset from Poon Hill (3210m). On the trail through the rhododendron and oak forests, you will come across many Gurung and Magar villages, and have a chance to interact with the locals and gain some insight into their unique cultures, traditions and lifestyle.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Route

Once our exploration and preparations are complete in Kathmandu, we will catch a short scenic flight to Pokhara. After a short drive to Nayapul, the Poon Hill Trek begins as we walk for a few hours to Tikhedhunga. After a day of pleasant walking past the bamboo forests and streams, we will arrive at the picturesque village of Ghorepani. We will climb early the next morning to Poon Hill to enjoy the fantastic sunrise view over the snow-clad peaks of the Annapurna region. Once we’re content with the view, we will resume on the path and trek through Tadapani, Ghandruk and Nayapul to finally end the trek at Pokhara. We will spend the day exploring the bustling lakeside markets and nearby attractions before catching a flight back to the capital. With this, we take in the last views of the serene mountains and bring our journey to a closure.

Best Times To Visit: Spring (March – May) and Autumn (September – November)

The best time to attempt the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is during spring and autumn as the skies are dust free and the mountains are crystal clear around this time. Thus, Poon Hill will also offer the most breathtaking sunrise and sunset views. It is recommended to not visit during monsoon however, as the trails can get slippery and the clouds will block most of your view.

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a relatively short and easy trek that can even be performed by children. The trails are well defined and easy to trek on and there are plenty of lodges and teahouses along the way to fulfill your needs. The scenery and landscape, along with the occasional touch of the local culture, is good enough to amaze even experienced trekkers though. Hence, this trek is guaranteed to be enjoyable for people of all ages and experience levels as long as you are at least moderately physically fit.

Day 04: Trek from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,800m) – 6 hours

Day 05: Climb to Poon Hill (3,210m) and trek to Tadapani (2,600m) – 5 hours

Day 06: Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk (1,940m) – 4 hours

Day 07: Trek to Nayapul, drive to Pokhara – 6 hours trek and 1 hour drive

Day 08: Leisure day in Pokhara, flight to Kathmandu

Day 09:  Farewell and flight back home

 

Details Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival at TIA, Kathmandu

Upon your arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, a representative from High 5 Adventures will meet you outside the terminal with a placard of your name. You will then be escorted to the hotel where you can rest after your flight and prepare for the trek. In the evening, you will be served traditional Nepali cuisine as dinner to introduce you to the country’s culture.

Day 02: Guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu

After breakfast, we will leave for a day of sightseeing around the valley. We will visit some world heritage sites including the Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple and the Bhaktapur, Patan or Kathmandu Durbar Squares among other sites. You’ll be guided to the bustling streets of Thamel in the evening where you can shop for any necessary trekking essentials as well as other souvenirs that you may want.

Day 03: Flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu, drive from Pokhara to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga (1,550m) – 1 hour drive and 5 hours trek

A scenic early morning flight will take us from the capital to the enchanting lakeside city of Pokhara. Once at Pokhara, we will catch a bus for a short drive to Nayapul. We will have our lunch in Nayapul amidst the view of the various mountain ranges around us. Our trekking now commences as we head towards Birenthani. We walk on this pleasant trail through the villages of Ramghai, Sudame and Hille before arriving at Tikhedhunga.

Day 04: Trek from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,800m) – 6 hours

After an early breakfast, we cross the Tikhedhunga khola and Bhurungdi khola through the suspension bridges. Ascending for almost an hour on the stone staircase, we make our way to the Magar village of Ulleri. We take a moment to catch our breath before continuing on past Banthani and Nangethani. We will arrive at Ghorepani after a few hours of walking and possibly even witness the sunset view if we’re on time.

Day 05: Climb to Poon Hill (3,210m) and trek to Tadapani (2,600m) – 5 hours

The highlight of the trip lies ahead of us today. We make an early morning ascent to Poon Hill to witness the heavenly view of sunrise from the top. The sight of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu and Machhapuchhre among other peaks, basking in the morning sun is a truly unforgettable experience. Once we’ve had our fill of this glorious view, we return back to Ghorepani for breakfast. We spend the day leisurely walking towards Deurali, where we stop for lunch. Continuing past the rhododendron and oak forests for a few more hours, we will eventually arrive at Tadapani.

Day 06: Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk (1,940m) – 4 hours

The trek today is a short and pleasant one. We hike through the terraced fields and forested paths and arrive at the quaint Gurung village of Ghandruk. We have our lunch admiring the pleasing views of Annapurna, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna and Machhapuchhre among others. After lunch, we will go for a brief visit to the nearby Ghandruk Cultural Museum. The museum will provide us a better understanding of the lifestyle and culture of the Gurung people. We will spend the rest of the evening exploring the village and enjoying the warmth and hospitality of the locals.

Day 07: Trek to Nayapul, drive to Pokhara – 6 hours trek and 1 hour drive

The trekking aspect of our trip is almost at an end now as we make our way from Ghandruk to Nayapul. We will pass through Chimrong and Birethani, where we’ll stop for lunch before eventually arriving at Nayapul. A short bus drive from Nayapul will lead us to Pokhara, with which the trekking comes to an end. We will stay the night at a hotel in Pokhara.

Day 08: Leisure day in Pokhara, flight to Kathmandu 

We wake up to the sight of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhre reflecting in the tranquil Phewa Lake. After you have breakfast at the hotel, you will have the morning to yourself. You can choose to stay at the hotel and simply rest, or explore the lakeside markets and nearby attractions. Either way, you will meet up with the rest of the group in the afternoon and head to the airport to catch a flight back to capital. Once at Kathmandu, you’ll be escorted to your hotel and served traditional Nepali dinner along with some cultural performances.

Day 09:  Farewell and flight back home

We will have a brief farewell program after breakfast, during which you’ll be able to meet up with the all the crew and group members one last time. Afterwards, one of our representatives will escort you to Tribhuwan International Airport a few hours before your flight.
