KyajoRi Peak Climbing

17 days

“Experience the enticing culture of the Khumbu region along with glorious views of Everest and the Tibetan Plateau on this alpine adventure to the summit of KyajoRi!”

Standing at over 20,000 feet, KyajoRi is a fairly challenging and technical peak to scale. As it hasn’t even been 20 years since KyajoRi was opened to the public, the peak doesn’t receive too many visitors. This makes it perfect for climbers in search of peace and solace in the Himalayas. We will trek through the DudhKoshi valley, experience the mountainous lifestyle and culture of the people in Namche Bazaar and enter the KyajoDrangka valley afterwards. The exhilarating multiple day climb to the summit is also a great way to improve your alpine mountaineering skills.

KyajoRi Peak Climbing Route

Our journey begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. After an exciting landing at the small hillside airstrip at the Tenzing Hillary airport, we will have a short warm-up trip to Phakding. We will spend the next couple of days in Namche Bazaar, exploring this bustling settlement and trying to acclimatize. Our climb will start after we reach Mende, which lies at the entrance to the KyajoDrangka valley. We will scramble up from Basecamp to Camp I to Camp II, all the way to the KyajoRi summit over the next few days. The summit sports a beautiful panorama of the region, including a close up view of Everest. From then onwards, the descent back to basecamp begins. From Basecamp, we will steadily trek down to Namche Bazaar and then to Lukla. The trip comes to a closure as we catch a short flight back to the capital from Lukla.

Best Time to Visit and Trek Difficulty

KyajoRi peak climbing is a physically challenging trek with a semi technical climb. You will be traverse across rough moraines and glacial terrain and use climbing skills on 45o+ slopes. As such, this trek is recommended for physically fit climbers with some prior trekking/climbing experience.

The best time to perform the KyajoRi peak climbing is during the spring and autumn seasons. These periods generally have stable weather, moderate temperature and clear skies. This leads to an easier trek with the best possible views and experience. In the winter, harshly cold temperatures and heavy snowfall can lead to the trek being undoable, especially in terms of peak climbing.
