Introduction:

Tilicho Himal, a striking peak located around high and beautiful Manang valley of Nepal North-West Himalaya at an altitude of above 7,135 meters high, rises above the hidden areas of Manang valley around picturesque and emerald Tilicho Lake.

Tilicho Himal stands aloof from a group of Northern Annapurna Himalaya close to Gangapurna and Nilgiris peaks, the mountain least explored and climbed by other climbers and adventurer due to its remoteness away from the main and popular Annapurna Circuit trekking trail.

Tilicho Peak can be clearly viewed from Manang village as the peak covered with much snow all the way to its summit, our route to Tilicho Himal Expeditions leads with overland drive from Kathmandu towards Lamjung area at Bhesisar town, and then heading towards north-west at Manang valley after walking through lovely villages of Dharapani-Chame-Pisang to Manang villages on the scenic route of popular Annapurna Circuit Trail, listed as world top ten adventure destinations by several travel magazines and guide books including Lonely Planet.

After Manang leaving behind the mainstream trekking route towards the complete wilderness of barren and arid country within high snow-capped mountains and beautiful Tilicho Lake, the climb is undertaken after much preparation with rest days and acclimatization.

Our Tilicho Himal expedition climb leads setting at least minimum of 2-3 camps after base camp, after base camp heading for the ascent with some technical section to reach at the top of Tilicho Peak after using the last final Camp II at above 6,245 meters high.

The Tilicho Himal Expedition summit rewards you with stunning views of Annapurna II, III and IV, Gangapurna, Glacier Dome, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiris Peak with Manaslu range in the far eastern horizon.

After a great climb heading towards Jomsom on crossing remote and isolated Mesokanto-la pass at 5,200 m high and then reaching towards Jomsom around lower Mustang area for short scenic flight to picturesque Pokhara blessed with natural beauty on the laps of Annapurna Himalaya.

Tilicho Himal Expedition concludes after an enjoyable stop in Pokhara and then driving back to Kathmandu on completing a fabulous and mesmerizing adventure of a lifetime experience.

Brief Itinerary:

Day 01: Reach Kathmandu via respective airlines and transfer to your hotels.
Day 02-03: In Kathmandu preparation for Tilicho Himal Expeditions with the optional tour.
Day 04: Drive to Syange 1,430 m via Bhesisar 800 m – 07 hrs journey.
Day 05: Trek to Dharapani 1,920m – 05 hours.
Day 06:  Trek to Chame 2,670 m – 06 hours.
Day 07: Trek to Pisang village 3,300 m – 05 hrs.
Day 08: Trek to Manang 3,520 m – 05 hrs.
Day 09: Rest day Manang for acclimatization and local hike.
Day 10: Trek to Khangsar 3,734m – 04 hrs.
Day 11: Trek to Tilicho Lake 4,140m – 04 hrs.
Day 12: Trek to Tilicho Peak base camp 4,830 m – 04 hrs.
Day 13: At Tilicho Base Camp for acclimatization.
Day 14 -28: a Climbing day with Camp I & Camp II and spare day for preparations.
Day 29: At Base Camp packing and clean up of the Base Camp.
Day 30: Trek to Nama Phu 3,510m via Mesokanto La 5,099 m – 06 hrs.
Day 31: Trek to Kaisang 3,280m or further to Thinigaon 2,850 m – 06 hrs.
Day 32: Trek to Jomsom 2,715 m – 04 hrs.
Day 33: Fly to Pokhara and transfer to hotel near Phewa Lakeside.
Day 34: Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 35-36: In Kathmandu at leisure and to submit expeditions report.
Day 37: International departure to respective countries.

Details Itinerary

Day 01: Reach at Kathmandu via airlines and transfer to respective hotels.
On reaching at Kathmandu international airport where you will be greeted with warm welcome by High Five Adventures staff and guides, and then transfer to your hotel where you will be joined with other members of Tilicho Himal expedition, here our guide and group leader will information and brief with wide information regarding the trek and Tilicho Himal expedition.

Day 02-03: In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Tilicho expeditions.

With free days in Kathmandu for necessary preparations where you will be busy packing and purchasing necessary required equipments for the expeditions, on last final day in Kathmandu with final briefing regarding the climb including do’s and don’ts, where our expert climbing guide will provide much information and items required for the climb.

For interested people can join in city tour around Kathmandu at places of interest, as Kathmandu valley full of world heritage sites of impressive historical and cultural monuments.

Day 04: Drive to Syange 1,430 m via Bhesisar 800 m - 08 hrs.
Starting this wonderful adventure with an interesting drive towards Nepal mid west with mountain scenery, journey leads to Bhesisar town then on the dirt road to Khudi, Bulbule and Ngadi following the Marysangdi River upstream, the drive continues through rice terraces fields and villages to Syange for overnight stop by the bank of the River Marysangdi.

Day 05: Trek to Dharapani 1,920 m - 05 hours.

Our first day walk leads uphill to Jagat and Chamje after leaving the river below, on reaching Chamje where Tibetan Buddhism culture starts and then reaching back at Marysangdi River,
after crossing heading forested trail above the river, with views of Annapurna and Manaslu to reach at Tal Besi.

After a pleasant stop few hours walk leads to Dharapani village for overnight stop, situated on the junction of Annapurna Circuit and Manaslu trekking route.

Day 06: Trek to Chame 2,670 m - 05 hours.

After Dharapani into alpine cool forest of rhododendron and pine trees past Bagarchap and Danque villages to reach at Timang with grand view of Mt. Manaslu 8,163m / 26,781ft, from here another hour walk brings at Koto and then at Chame for overnight stop, a major headquarter town of Manang district.

Day 07: Trek to Pisang 3, 230 m - 05 hrs.

From Chame onward air gets cooler with fresh mountain air, morning walk leads into lovely alpine forest of rhododendron and pine tree along fast flowing Marshyangdi River, as the walk leads to Bhratang village, after this village start with scenic climb into pine forest to Dhukure Pokhari, a small place with few teahouses and lodge offering grand views of Chulu’s and Pisang peak with Pisang village, after a refreshing break after walk on downhill to reach at lower Pisang village for overnight stop.

Day 08: Trek to Manang 3,450 m - 06 hrs.

After Pisang village morning walk along the bank of Marshyangdi River passing Humde village with a small airstrip. The environment around this area with arid and barren landscapes with cold, dry climate, walk along the bank of Marshyangdi River passing several village like Humde and Braga to reach the upper Manang village. After few hours of good walk reaching at Manang a large prosperous village, houses are built up in traditional Tibetans style with rich culture and traditional lifestyle.

Day 09: At Manang rest day for acclimatization.
A necessary rest day for acclimatization before the climb of Chulu West and towards Thorang -la, at Manang optional short hike to explore the Manang village and its valley, this large village situated on the wide windswept valley at the bank of Marysangdi River beneath Annapurna and Gangapurna mountain range, a nice walk up for views of Gangapurna Glacier and the Lake. 

Day 10: Trek to Khangsar 3,734m - 04 hrs.
From Manang walk follows for a while on the main trail of Annapurna circuit, then reaching the last village of Manang, leaving the main trail towards Tilocho on the south-west route after four hours of good walk reaching at Khangsar for the overnight stop and the last village before Thinegaon and Jomsom.

Day 11: Trek to Tilicho Lake 4,140m - 04 hrs.
The walk from Khangsar leads to absolute wilderness in the barren region, the walk leads downhill for a while, then it starts to climb on the windswept terrain with few patches of small tress and alpine shrubs, the walk finally leads to the turquoise lake of Tilicho and of the holy lake for the Hindu's and Buddhist there is two teahouse or a lodge by the shore of the lake, overnight camp by the lake shore with time for short hike around.

Day 12: Trek to Tilicho Peak Base Camp 4,830m - 04 hrs.
After a wonderful time here, the track leads further on for 4 hours in perfect natural windswept landscapes on leaving the Tilicho Lake heading towards the high pass of Tilicho, on arriving at Namaphu the base of the high pass of Tilicho and Masokanto which are over 5,000m pass. Overnight camp on the meadow chances of seeing some wildlife mountain antelopes, musk deer or the elusive snow leopard around this area.

Day 13: At Tilicho Base Camp for acclimatization.
This free day allows you for the preparations for the climb and to scout the suitable route of the climb to the summit of Tilicho Peak.

Day 14 -28: Climbing day with Camp I & Camp II and spare day for preparations.
High Five Adventures reserves maximum of 15 days for the climb to the top of Tilicho Himal leads to some technical climb in some sections, crossing glacier and then climbing up 1,100m North Face section followed by 400m East Ridge climb with low objective danger due to potential avalanche in some areas on the tour to its summit.

Camp I at around 5,810 m located on a glacial ridge at the base of North Ridge with upper section and climb 600m on the glacier with 20deg inclination to
Camp II at about 6, 245 m which is half way towards North Face 65 deg /1230 100m route, with a snow field and ice climbing.

After a strenuous climb to summit with super panorama of Annapurna II, III and IV, Gangapurna, Glacier Dome, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiris Peak with Manaslu range towards Far East.
From the top feeling in high spirit then descend safely back to base camp for onward journey to Jomsom.

Day 29:  At Base Camp packing and clean up of the base camp.
All climbers and team of staff should be back at base camp for cleaning up the mess and carry and pack the garbage to carry at proper designated sites, rest of the afternoon packing and final preparation to leave the base camp for Jomsom via Mesokanta-la for the flight to Pokhara and to Kathmandu.

Day 30: Trek to Nama Phu 3,510m via Masokanta La 5,099 m - 06 hrs.
Today starting early to encounter the passes traversing the Tilicho high pass and then descend towards Masokanta base after a break here, walking slowly on the rocky rubbles where the path can be misleading following our expert guides towards the top of Masokanta overlooking beautiful views of the surrounding peaks of Tilicho and Nilgiris with Dhaulagiri's towards south west. The walk descends to camp on the summer pasture on route Jomsom after a hard trek of 6 hours. In snow conditions can take 2 hrs long.

Day 31: Trek to Kaisang 3,280m or further to Thinigaon 2,850 m - 06 hrs.
After a hard walk trek today is much easier on downhill path towards Kaisang overlooking beautiful views of the surrounding landscapes and snow capped peaks on reaching Kaisang a small Shepards spot, time permitting heading towards the Thinigaon a large village perched above Jomsom and Kaligandaki Valley. On reaching Thinigaon after a good walk of few hours from Kaisang, overnight camp by the village.

Day 32:            Trek to Jomsom 2,713 m - 03 hrs.
The final day of this great adventure leads to Jomsom with 3 hours of easy and leisurely walk passing through several scattered houses and farm places, then reaching towards civilizations at Jomsom where you can party with the fellow members, guides and porters after the great adventurous journey.

Day 33: Fly to Pokhara and transfer to hotel.
Morning as per the flight time transfer to Jomsom airport for a short scenic flight to beautiful Pokhara, one of the most picturesque holiday destination in whole Himalaya region or on this planet earth with spectacular mountain views and serene lakes of Begnas and Phewa.

Day 34: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu.
Morning a scenic drive to Kathmandu, after a wonderful memorable adventure on Tilicho Himal Expeditions, on reaching Kathmandu transfer to respective hotels with afternoon free at leisure. (Option by air 30 minutes scenic flight to Kathmandu)

Day 35-36: In Kathmandu for individual activities.
Two days as contingency or spare days in case of delay on climb due to bad weather and other technical difficulties, today enjoy the free day relaxing and busy sorting out climbing equipments, where our leader and guide will submit expedition’s reports to concern Nepal Government department.

On this free day, you can join in our guided tour where you can witness ancient culture and heritage sites around Kathmandu valley.

Day 37: International departure for home ward bound.
Tilicho Himal Expeditions completes today in Kathmandu, as per the time for your international flight homeward bound or to next respective countries and port of call, transfer to airport with mesmerizing and exciting adventure with High Five Adventures and its cheerful friendly guides and staff.

  • Airport Pick up drop (Airport /Hotel/Airport) by private car/van/Bus. Hotel in Kathmandu: Two night's tourist standard Hotel in Katmandu with breakfast basis. Welcome dinner and farewell dinner in Kathmandu
