High Five Adventure presents an awesome journey around Nepal’s Far North West Himalaya “Upper Dolpo to Jomsom” Trekking, a mind-blowing adventure in one of the remote areas of Himalaya which lies on the ancient Caravan Trade route of Nepal and Tibet, where the classic movie Caravan later changed to Himalaya (a Nepal and French venture film) was shot around this beautiful location.

Upper Dolpo to Jomsom trekking leads you to enjoy its pristine environment and in tranquility within the backdrop of ancient Bon sect culture interwoven with Tibetan Buddhism religion.

The scenery beyond imagination on this wonderful and amazing adventure Upper Dolpo to Jomsom trek, where you will be walking into emerald color Phuksumdo Lake and crossing Kang-la also called as Nangdalo pass of above 5,360 m the highest point of the trekking offering super magnificent views of whole of Dolpo landscapes with Kagmara and Dhaulagiri mountain range.

Starting our fabulous journey Upper Dolpo to Jomsom trekking taking a sweeping scenic flight to low warm areas of far southern Nepal at Nepalgunj for transit flight to Jhupal at Dolpo, where our actual adventure begins walking into Dunai, the headquarter town of Dolpo and then at beautiful Phuksumdo Lake.

After an enjoyable time at Phuksumdo Lake our adventure continues crossing Kang-la to reach at remote and isolated areas of Shey and its old monastery close to Shey or Crystal Mountain embedded with quartz and semi-precious stones.

With interesting time at Shey Gompa or crystal monastery heading to lovely villages of Saldang and Tokyu to reach our destination towards Mustang area and then crossing several high passes as the journey leads towards popular and famous Kaligandaki River valley at Mustang area in Jomsom the main town of Mustang region.

Jomsom and Kaligandaki areas famous for delicious apples and its products, after Jomsom a short and scenic flight brings you at picturesque and touristic spot at Pokhara, blessed with Annapurna Himalaya and beautiful Phewa and Begnas Lakes.

Day 33: Final International Departure for homeward bound.

Details Itinerary

Day 01: Reach at Kathmandu via airlines and transfer to respective hotels.
On reaching at Kathmandu international airport where you will be greeted with warm welcome by High Five Adventure staff and guides, and then transfer to your hotel where you will be joined with other members of Upper Dolpo & Jomsom Trekking, here our guide will brief with wide information regarding the trek.

Day 02: In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Upper Dolpo Trek.

With free day in Kathmandu for necessary preparations where you will be busy packing and purchasing necessary required equipments for the trek, on last final day in Kathmandu with final briefing regarding the trek including do’s and don’ts, where our expert guide will provide much information and items required for the adventure to Dolpo area.

For interested people can join in city tour around Kathmandu at places of interest, as Kathmandu valley full of world heritage sites of impressive historical and cultural monuments.

Day 03: Morning free afternoon fly to Nepalgunj.
Morning free for last minute shopping or just relax afternoon flight to Nepal Far South West at Nepalgunj, located near India border, during flight view of Himalayan Mountains reaching Nepalgunj airport, transfer to respective hotels for overnight stop.      

Day 04: Fly to Jhupal 2,320 m then trek to Dunai 2,850m – 03 hrs.
Early breakfast for another short flight to Jhupal in Dolpo, at Jhupal join with our trekking staff and trek to Dunai for overnight stop, walk leads through interesting farm villages and farm lands with views of snow capped peaks in the distance in Jhupal in the comfort of nice lodge.

Day 05: Trek to Ankhe 2,896m - 06 hrs.
After overnight in Dunai, morning walk through market and crossing bridge over Thulo Bheri River and then climb over a ridge to Phuksumdo River valley with views of Kagmara peak, from here trek leads downhill passing spread out houses with walnut trees close to a stream at Dhera a small cattle herders settlements. From here a short climb to Rahagaon village of Thakuri  Hindu people, then downhill into thick forest to reach overnight camp at Ankhe, a small village and entrance gate of Shey Phuksumdo National Park.

Day 06: Trek to Sumdu / Sulighat village 3,500m -06 hrs.
From Ankhe morning walk with short climb and descend through forest reaching a river bank, from here climb on leaving the forest, from the top walk downhill to forested area leading upstream to cross a small bridge at Ryajik village, trek  further to Sumdu near Sulighat village for overnight stop.

Day 07: Trek to Phuksumdo Lake 3,500 m - 05 hours.
Morning walk leads to our first destination at Phuksumdo Lake after Pungmo Kholas valley  and crossing streams, following Pungmo Khola downhill into pine and birch trees to reach at upper side of Phokshindo Khola, after a  short break continue walk to Ringmo village, an interesting, attractive Tibetan like village with mud plastered chortens and Mani (prayer) walls.

From here a short walk to Phokshindo Lake for overnight camp by the shore of beautiful turquoise Phuksumdo Lake.

Day 08: Rest day at Phokshumdo Lake for local excursion.
A perfect place for free and rest day, just relax and marvel the beautiful views of surrounding landscapes and peaks of Kagmara, or visit this interesting Ringmo village and walk to the lake side.

Day 09: Trek to Phokshumdo-Khola 3,640 m- 05 hrs.
From this lovely place morning walk starts to higher area of upper Dolpo region to our another highlight and final destination of this awesome journey walk follows to contour around rocky ledge over the river bank on the unsteady path, then approaching at the western side the lake through a summer pasture which opens into a wide plain of Phuksumdo Khola for the overnight camp by the river shore.

Day 10: Trek to Phuksumdo Bhanjyang - 07 hrs.
After a nice walk of previous day, today’s morning trek begins on a good path leading northern area of Phuksumdo Khola and then walking up on the hill slopes, after a steep uphill to reach at a ridge top with impressive scenery of wide green valley and looking over Kang-La pass that leads to Shey Gompa, setting the camp for the night stop on this nice green summer pasture.

Day 11: Trek to Shey Gompa 4,500m via Kang-La 5,360 m -06 hrs.
Morning walk starts to our main destination at Shey Gompa which the high lights of this adventure after Phuksumdo Lake, trek continues with a climb on stone and rocky path to cross Kang-la pass at 5,360 meters, highest point of this adventure.

The top offers super views of landscapes with snow clad peaks including Mt. Dhaulagiri.

After reaching the top ridge, descend to the bottom of the hill leading by the river then across cattle herder camps, after a short stop continue towards Buddhist prayer monument Chortens and Mani.

After a great walk reaching at Shey Gompa located beneath Crystal Mountain regarded as a Holy Mountain with an old monastery nearby.

Day 12: Rest day at Shey Gompa the crystal monastery.
A perfect place for rest day in this high mountain area, in the harmony of nature and chanting of monks, visit Shey Monastery also known Crystal Monastery, this area is well described in the novel Snow Leopard by Peter Matthiessen.

Day 13: Trek to Namduna Gaon 4,800m via Saldang La 5,200m.
From this wonderful place, our journey continuous into a wall canyon, trail meanders atop Saldang-la, offering great views of landscapes and of Mt. Dhaulagiri peaks, downhill on the grazing area with pleasant walk to Namduna Gaon for overnight stop.

Day 14: Trek to Saldang 3,620 m -05 hours.
After a stop in this village walk on dusty windswept terrain, leading to steep uphill to reach our overnight camp at Saldang, another impressive large village of the region, situated higher side of the plateau.

Day 15: Trek to Chagaon 3,960 m - 05 hrs visit Rapa Gompa.
From here, morning walk following river Nang chu all the way with short ups and down and then passing few cattle herders settlement, and then heading to our overnight camp at Chagaon a small village with an old Rapa Gomba of pre Buddhist Bon-Pa culture.

Day 16: Trek to Rakyo 4,160 m via Darshamna Dovan - 06 hrs.    
Morning walking on main route, then taking South West direction to Rakyo beyond, after crossing the same trail following river through farm fields, and then walk into Darshama Dovan another village of farmers and cattle herders, from here walk leads to pasture land at Rakyo for overnight camp.

Day 17: Trek to camp at 4,542m after Jyanta Bhanjyang 5,231 m - 06 hrs.
Today walk leads away from human settlement and villages to camp in complete wilderness, heading higher but due south with incredible views of Dolpo vast windswept landscapes around isolated area. Walk leads over Jyanta Bhanjyang or a pass at 5,231 m one of the highest pass of this adventure after Kang-la and then heading downhill to camp around pasture field at about 4,542 meters high.

Day 18: Trek to Murjung 4,965 m - 06 hrs.
After nice stop in this summer pasture area walk follows a small stream for short while, and then encountering yaks and mules laden caravan on route Tibet, trade with Tibet exists since hundreds of years, and this walking route lies on the old Trans Himalayan Caravan Route.
Finally this fine walk ends at Murjung a small interesting village for overnight.

Day 19: Trek to Tokyu Gaon 4,200m via Jeng la 5,090m-06 hrs.
From Murjung, morning starts with steep climb to reach a ridge with tremendous views of massive Mt. Dhaulagiri range, from here a long descend to Tarap valley, one of the largest and longest valley of Dolpo area which is about 20 k.m. which stretches following Tarap Chu River, after an easy walk for hours reaching at Tokyogaon for overnight, this is one of the most impressive and interesting village of Dolpo area, consist of more than ten villages and nice tended farm fields with an old monasteries.

Day 20: Trek to Dho Tarap 4,040m- 05 hrs.
After Tokyugaon, morning starts with downhill walk towards Tarap Chu on broader green valley, this is one of the scenic wide valleys with lots of Sheppard’s settlements of Yaks and Sheep, and walk continues to our overnight camp at Dho Tarap, this is another interesting village with mix tribes of Tibetans origin and Magar hill tribe people.

Day 21:  Trek to Jhyarkot Bhanjyang 4,230 m - 06 hrs.
Morning with nice pleasant walk on a valley with few vegetation of bushes of juniper and wild rose, around this area might spot some wild life Blue Sheep and other mountain animals, as the walk progress reaching at Jhyarkot Bhanjyang for overnight camp by the river after a long day walk of about 6 hours.

Day 22: Trek to Mola after Chharka pass 5,027 m - 06 hrs.
Morning walk leads to last and remote area before reaching villages, following a stream, involves some adventure climbing over Chharka pass at 5,027 m with grand vista of Dhaulagiri mountain range. After the climb descend to Mola to camp near temporary cattle herder’s shelters.

Day 23: Trek to Chharka Bhanjyang 4,110 m - 06 hrs visit Sarchhan Gompa.
Start the morning walk to lower Dolpo area passing smaller settlement of yak herders, following river all the way at Chharka Bhanjyang, an interesting village close towards Mustang area with well maintained neat terraced farm fields, after reaching the campsite visit Sarchhan Gompa.

Day 24: Trek to Naljyang Sumoa 4,340 m - 05 hrs.
After a great time in pure wilderness, last walk leads to Naljyang Sumoa a small settlement before a high Niwar pass of 5,120 m, walk leads on gradual winding path on dusty windswept terrain to reach our camp in Naljyang Sumoa at 4,340 m high.

Day 25: Trek and cross Niwar pass 5,120 m after Molum Sumna - 07 hrs.
Today one of the longest day of trekking as the walk leads to cross a high Niwar pass at 5,120 m with spectacular panorama of mountains and landscapes of arid windswept terrain, before the pass walking though Molum Sumna village, after an adventure over the pass downhill to camp on a pasture land of Yaks.

Day 26: Trek to Sangde Phedi 4,190 m - 06 hrs.
Slowly walk leads to Mustang area on losing altitude as the trail leads Sangde Phedi after crossing a small scenic ridge with views of mountains and then on gradual winding path to reach the bottom of Sangde ridge at Phedi for overnight stop.

Day 27: Trek to Sangyl 3,710m - 05 hrs.
An interesting day as the walk leads lower altitude at the end of Dolpo area to Sangyal and Tiri Gaon and the lake Tiri Tal, walking downhill with more views of snowcapped peaks of Mustang Himal including Nilgiri peaks and finally reaching at Sangyl for overnight stop in a small farmers settlement.

Day 28: Trek to Tiri Tal 3,180 m - 05 hrs.
Today our last day around Dolpo as the walk leads closer to Mustang area following the old caravan route of Mustang / Dolpo and to Tibet.

As our walk continues with a climb over a ridge and a small pass offering grand vista of mountains and as far to Mustang villages of Kagbeni and Tirigaon, from the top downhill reaching a small glacial pond called Tiri Tal for last overnight stop around Dolpo area.

Day 29: Trek to Jomsom 2,715 via Tirigaon and Kagbeni - 07 hrs.
Morning walk heading to the last village of Dolpo area at Tirigaon, and then downhill to cross Kaligandaki River over a suspension bridge reaching at Ekle Bhatti or directly to Kagbeni village.

Whatever the choice is, on reaching Mustang area walk is pleasant on river bed with flat trail to follow all the way to Jomsom town in the comfort of excellent lodge with delicious food menu.

Jomsom headquarter town of whole Mustang district located on Kaligandaki valley connecting popular Annapurna circuit trekking trail and to holy Muktinath temple.

Jomsom with a small airport afternoon explore the market this area famous for delicious apples.

Day 30: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara (9,00m | 2,952ft) transfer to your hotel.
Early breakfast then transfer to Jomsom airport for scenic short flight of 25 minutes to Pokhara, during airborne awesome views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiris and Annapurna range of mountains with rolling hills and villages,

On reaching Pokhara airport transfer to respective hotels by the lake Phewa, afternoon free for individual activities or just relax and enjoy the views of the Annapurna Himalaya.

Day 31: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu.
Morning a scenic drive to Kathmandu, after a wonderful memorable adventure on Upper Dolpo to Jomsom,  on reaching Kathmandu transfer to respective hotels with afternoon free at leisure, option by air 30 minutes scenic flight to Kathmandu.

Day 32: In Kathmandu for individual activities.
A free day in Kathmandu to relax and as well for individual activities and shopping or join in our guided tour where you can witness ancient culture and heritage sites around Kathmandu valley.

Day 33: International departure for home ward bound.
Upper Dolpo to Jomsom Trek completes today in Kathmandu, as per the time for your international flight homeward bound or to next respective countries and port of call, transfer to airport with mesmerizing and exciting adventure with High Five Adventure and its cheerful friendly guides and staff.

  • Airport Pick up drop (Airport /Hotel/Airport) by private car/van/Bus. Hotel in Kathmandu: Two night's tourist standard Hotel in Katmandu with breakfast basis. Welcome dinner and farewell dinner in Kathmandu
