Upper Mustang trek

Upper Mustang is known as the former Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal. Lo Manthan very beautiful starry and arid land can be seen in way to upper mustang trekking. Our maximum part goes through the Mustang District. In this trek, we can have the opportunity of exploring local tradition & culture, Geographical situation with Lance Cave which is in Mustang district. This place is a very dry place. There will be very little rainfall throughout the year. So the Mustang district is known as the desert of Nepal. Few numbers of snow-capped mountains with the Rocky Mountains will be so much interesting which will make our trek memorable.

We will start Upper Mustang trekking from Jomsom with a mountain flight from Pokhara. We need to walk our most of our way through dense forest, dry & barren land where we can witness of many species of flora and fauna playing on the beauty of nature. We need to move from low land to high land due to which we need to accumulate our self in many of the places to fit our self in high altitude.  Mustang is border to Tibet due to which we can see most of the people following Tibetan culture. We will be so familiar with the people during this trek because of their friendly and hospitality nature. These kinds of behavior make us to visit Upper Mustang again and again. After exploring we will return back to Kathmandu from mountain flight which will end our trek. Upper Mustang trekking is quite challenging and a bit long trekking. Details Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu

After landing flight at TIA, representative of High Five Adventures will warmly receive you. We will move towards the hotel. We will enjoy delicious dinner at night. After dinner we will give brief description of the program to Upper Mustang trekking.       

Day 02: Full Day Sightseeing Tour of Kathmandu Valley

Today, we spend our day by sightseeing of Kathmandu Valley with guide. We will visit Pashupatinath, which is regarded as the holiest temple of Lord Shiva, Bauddhanath known as Little Tibet and to Swayambhunath known as Monkey Temple. From Swayambhunath, we drive to Kathmandu (Basantpur Durbar Square). Finally, we return hotel and prepare our trek for tomorrow.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara

Early morning after having breakfast we drive to Pokhara. It takes about 7 hours. We will be enjoyed with outstanding scenery all around us. After reaching pokhare we will be shifted in hotel. Then we will spend our leisure time on exploring the Pokhara city (beautiful city of Kathmandu) and Lakeside. We will spend our night at pokhara.

Day 04: Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (2700m) and trek to Kagbeni (2858m) – 4 Hours 

We will have early morning flight to Jomsom (headquarter of Mustang). During our flight we will be pleased with the beautiful mountain ranges. From Jomsom our real trekking starts. We will walk towards Kagbeni through the path of Kali Gandaki River. During our journey we will we will pass through Ekley Bhatti village. Lastly we will reach Kagbeni to stay our night.

Day 05: Trek from Kagbeni to Chele (3050m) – 6 Hours

In Kagbeni we need to checkup ore special permit to continue our journey. In contineuing our journey we picturesque desert valley of Nepal will be so much interesting. Our full track goes through sandy and windy trails. We need to walk on uphill and downhill. Slowly going ahead we will reach to the small ridges at Chele Village. We will spend our night at Chele.

Day 06: Trek from Chele to Syangboche (3475m) – 7 Hours

From Chele, our journey goes toward Ekle Bhatti. We need to cross the Taklam La Pass (3624m). The entire path will be on plateaus and narrow stretches. In our way we can view paranomic scene of Tilicho Peak, Damodar Danda, and Yakawa Kang. During this moment we will reach Syangboche where we spend our night.

Day 07: Trek from Syangboche to Ghaymi (3520m) – 6 Hours

After having light breakfast we start our trekking at Ghaymi. At first we need to walk uphill to Yamda La (3850m). In our way we can see many teahouses and local villages having Tibetan culture and traditions. Lastly we need to climb the Nyi Pass (4010m) and descending down we reach Ghaymi village.

 Day 08: Trek from Ghaymi to Charang (3500m) — 5 Hours

Early morning after having breakfast we start our journey crossing Ghaymi Khola. We need to ascend on plateau and then pass beside a very long Mani wall (a sacred stone wall made by the followers of Buddhism). Walking and talking we will reach the village of Charang with a maze of fields.

Day 09: Trek from Charang to Lo-Manthang (3700m) – 6 Hours

We trek to Lo-Manthang with magnificent views of Tilicho, Annapurna I, Nilgiri and Bhrikuti Peak. At first our trial descends to Charang Chu Canyon and then ascends steeply after crossing the river. Gently we will pass Lo from where panoramic view of Lo-Mangthang valley can be observed.

Day 10: Acclimatization at Lo-Manthang

Today we spend our whole day explore Lo-Manthang. At first we will visit Namgyal Gompa (situated on a hilltop considered as an important monastery in the local community) and Tingkhar (last main village to the northwest of Lo-Manthang). Then we will return back to spend our night.

Day 11: Trek from Lo-Manthang to Drakmar (3810m) – 7 Hours

From Lo-Manthang we will start our journey from different path of returning Lo-Manthang. We need to walk on the route through Gyakar with more than 1200 years old Ghar Gompa with Guru Ringpoche as the primary figure. We continue tour trek by exploring the local area and reach Drakmar.

Day 12: Trek from Drakmar to Ghiling (3806m) – 6 Hours

After having breakfast we will return back toward Ghiling. We will reach Ghiling at mid day. So we spend our remaining time exploring the area but it's more likely to get dusty wind at afternoon, so it is suggested to walk in the evening time. After exploring all the time we will return back to stay our night.

Day 13: Trek from Ghiling to Chhuksang (3050m) – 6 Hours

From Ghiling, we start our journey toward Chhuksang. In our route beautiful scenery will be so much impressive. Walking slowly on humpty dumpty way we eventually reach the village of Chhuksang, where we stay night at a local guesthouse.

Day 14: Trek from Chhuksang to Jomsom (2700m) – 7 Hours

Today’s walk will be our last day of our trekking. And it’s going to be long day trek. It’s better to walk as early as possible to reach Kagbeni. After finishing the Upper Mustang trails, we now join the usual Annapurna Circuit trail. We head on to Jomsom after having lunch at kagbeni. At Jomsom we will spend our last night.

Day 15: Fly back to Pokhara and drive back to kathmandu

From Jomsom, we will catch the early morning flight over to Pokhara. The magnificent view of mountain ranges with snow cap from the plane will be so much memorable. After reaching Pokhara we will return by driving back to Kathmandu. It will take about 7 to 8 hours. The night will be relaxing at hotel of Kathmandu valley.

Day 16: Farewell

After having a night rest at Kathmandu, we will pack our luggage to march ourselves towards the international airport of Nepal. We have to reach at airport 3 hours before the flight. We will attend a small farewell program organized by High Five Adventures. After then we will catch the flight to return back to the home country. We hope, while returning back to home country you will think for a re visit to Nepal. We hope for your better journey.

  • Airport Pick up drop (Airport /Hotel/Airport) by private car/van/Bus. Hotel in Kathmandu: Two night's tourist standard Hotel in Katmandu with breakfast basis. Welcome dinner and farewell dinner in Kathmandu
